A Simple Act, A Powerful Impact

At the Father Virgil Cordano Center, something as simple as a haircut is changing lives.

In a recent feature by KEYT News Channel 3-12, Sister Oanh Tran of St. Vincent’s Santa Barbara shares how her unique background in healthcare and cosmetology allows her to serve Santa Barbara’s unhoused community in a deeply personal way.

Each week, she provides nearly 30 haircuts to individuals visiting the center—offering more than just grooming. For many, it’s a moment of dignity, confidence, and connection.

Clients describe the experience as transformative. A haircut becomes more than a service—it’s a reminder that they are seen, valued, and cared for.

Through small, consistent acts of compassion, Sister Oanh and the team at the Father Virgil Cordano Center continue to create a space of hope and belonging for those who need it most.

The Fr. Virgil Cordano Center creates a quiet, respectful, and safe environment for our members to experience a place of welcome and support for the human development and spiritual well-being of our sisters and brothers in need.  In addition, the following onsite services are available to our members:

Spiritual guidance and support for the human dignity of each person.  A place for listening to the life story of each Companionship Club Member and for shared prayer and mutual support in a hope filled environment.

Development of self-respect and social skills for all members of the Companionship Club.

A place where guests can receive personal care services and wash their clothes in a safe, supportive environment. A Registered Nurse is also on-site to provide basic wound care, bandage sore or injured feet, and offer pain relief for those in need.

You can make a difference too.
